Kerling
Curling is the only Olympic sport in which athletes wear different shoes – the sole of the left shoe is made of nylon gliding on ice, and the right shoe is made of rubber (on the left-handed side, vice versa). Also included is a rubber overshoe.
Scotland is considered to be the birthplace of curling, because of the discovery of a stone with the engraving “Sterling 1511” there. This game has many other names – “Playing Roaring Stones”, “Rocks on Ice”, etc. Continue reading
Synchronized swimming
In synchronized swimming, Russian athletes are always at their best. Even at the Olympics in Athens (2004), when in the finals of the group tournament the music of our athletes Ermakova and Davydova were turned off twice, they still took first place.
Water ballet (the original name of synchronized swimming) is quite a young sport, it appeared only in the 20s of the last century in Canada and very quickly gained popularity in other countries. For a long time (since 1948) synchronized swimming was only an indicative sport, and only in 1984 it was included in the main program – solo performances and a duet. Continue reading
Rhythmic gymnastics for children and not only
Rhythmic gymnastics – is one of the most fascinating sports. The speakers of the girls look like fairies, who easily move around the field on the stage and playfully catch tapes, balls, hoops and at the same time smile so sincerely. In fact, this lightness is achieved by high professionalism and grueling workouts for many years.
This sport is relatively young, it appeared at the end of the XIX century thanks to the professionals from the ballet. Continue reading
